The rain in Spain? | |||
I never thought I would hear myself say ‘I wish it would rain’. But that is exactly how I feel. Following nearly 4 months of sauna like weather with a few tonnes of dust thrown in, I am ready for a downpour. The car looks like it has been parked in the Sahara for the duration (inside and out) and no matter how much cleaning gets done in the house – it just looks the same – dust everywhere! I am getting through hoover bags and furniture polish at a rapid rate. The many holidays we have had in hot climes and all the time wishing to live in the baking heat; it is a lot different when you actually do it. For a start, while on holiday you are usually lying prostrate on a sun bed and the only exercise is to reach out for the cocktail you ordered. Life takes on a snail like pace whilst on holiday – no rush. When living in England and a short time in France, time was also of no consequence. You could go out at any time of day to do jobs or shopping, not here and not in the summer. For those not accustomed to the extreme heat we experience during the summer, your days have to be planned very carefully. As we are not in holiday mode, the only way we can get some jobs done is to be up before sun-up and ready to work just as it peaks over the rise. Then work like a navvy until about 1pm then it’s down tools until 6pm when we start again until dark (around 9pm). All the time, wringing wet with perspiration and drinking copious amounts of liquid – I wonder where it all goes? – Because the same amount taken certainly isn’t the same amount that comes out. As for shopping – get there early is my motto! Before you start to melt in front of the shop assistant. Would we have it any other way? – definitely not! But a teeny, weeny bit of the wet stuff every now and again would be nice. |
